Manitoba Fearless quarterback, Roxanna Cox, answered a few of our questions, regarding WWC and Team Canada. She won MVP team title in season 2012 on the Nationals.
“This game is a lot more dynamic than touch football and being a quarterback is way different than being a receiver in touch football, and I’m just having a ton of fun,” said Roxanna after her first win and first TD for Fearless against Wolf pack.
How did your football adventure start?
My football adventure started 8 years ago playing touch football. I started by playing on a women's team and over the years started playing on men's teams as well. Outdoor touch football in Canada is 7 on 7 with absolutely no contact or blocking allowed. I played centre on offence and usually safety on defense. I only began playing tackle football one year ago. A girl that I had played touch football with texted and told me about the tackle football team she had joined (the Manitoba Fearless). She invited me out to practice. I ended up becoming the quarterback for the team. I will be playing for Team Canada at the WWC as receiver.
Best Game Day memory
One of my best memories of playing tackle football was the first touchdown pass I threw in my first game. It was a post to our wide receiver.
Toughest moment
One of my toughest moments in my football career was playing against the Saskatoon Valkyries in regular season play last year. They are a very strong team and we struggled to get the ball moving on offence.
What are your predictions for Team Canada in the WWC 2013?
I really don't know what to predict for Team Canada in this WWC. I haven't been exposed to women's international play before. The goal is obviously to win the tournament. Beside USA team and their result from 2010. I haven't been exposed to women's international play before. We ll do our best definitely.
Future plans
I'm looking forward to representing Canada at the WWC. And I’m looking forward to Canadian League upcoming season. Nothing specially in the future for now.
Can Team Fearless take the national title next season?
There is no national title in Canada for women's football, unfortunately. The Manitoba Fearless plays in the Western Women's Canadian Football League. There are now 9 teams in our league. Saskatoon would be the strong favorite to win our league but I think the Manitoba Fearless can take a run at the championship this year.
TDEU traditional question: Kickers?
My favorite kicker would have to be Bob Cameron, former kicker for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL.
Nikola Davidović
