CEFL: Silverhawks Defeated The Highflying Vukovi, Without Imports

Ljubljana Silverhawks won the first game of Central European Football League (Sportklub CEFL) without their imports from the USA against current champions of the league from Belgrade.

Box score: Ljubljana Silverhawks – Beograd Vukovi: 15 – 6 (2-0, 6-6, 0-0, 7-0)

Both teams started the match weakened: Silverhawks started their season without imports from the USA, while Vukovi played without Washington, Josovič and Vitorovič.

Match was at the beginning dictated by defenses, where Silverhawks forced the Vukovi and scored a safety with a sack in the endzone.

Soon in the second quarter the Vukovi offense showed the only scoring drive on the game. Rutherford scored on a QB sneak. PAT was blocked, but the Silverhawks defence was penalized. Vukovi tried the 2-point conversion, but were unsuccessful.

Silverhawks offense was successfully led by Matej Musič, Matic Tomše and Eugen Sumič, who scored on QB sneak after few long runs from Gregor Črepinšek. PAT was unsuccessful. 

In second half the Silverhawks defence allowed only few short passes, at the same time the Silverhawks offensive line worked well together as they produced a couple of first downs.

The match was decided in last quarter, where good defensive work was paid off, as Sandi Holub returned an interception across the whole football field for a touchdown. PAT was this time successful.

Head coach Rok Štamcar said after the major win over Vukovi: “Today it would be unjust to expose a single player. Everyone who played today left his hearth on the field and this is what decided this match. I’m proud on my players!

Ljubljana Silverhawks were supported by couple of hundred fans who supported their team loud during whole game.
