The Hornets are looking to take a few steps closer to the National championship in the upcoming season. As their ambitions grow, so do their roster needs. Their first American signing for the 2019 season is Curtis Bent (24), linebacker out of Wichita, Kansas.
Last year in the top division of Serbian football, the Jagodina Black Hornets have made a statement by reaching the playoffs in their rookie season. They are often considered as underdogs, but that hasn’t stopped them from achieving their goals so far.
The Hornets are looking to take a few steps closer to the National championship in the upcoming season. As their ambitions grow, so do their roster needs. Their first American signing for the 2019 season is Curtis Bent (24), linebacker out of Wichita, Kansas.
Throughout his high school career Bent has played various positions (LB, DL, OL, RB), earning honors at RB his senior year. He was a walk-on at Emporia State (NCAA Division II) in 2012. After taking some time off, in 2015 he earned a scholarship and transferred to Bethel College (NAIA) where he played his last three seasons earning Honorable Mention this past season.
How did you find out about football in Europe?
- Through my college coaches and teammates. They pointed me to this league and said I would enjoy the experience and a chance to continue playing the sport I love, so I prayed on it and God showed me the way!
In October you were named the KCAC Player of the week recording 4 sacks, 10 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss in a single game vs Saint Mary! Besides stats, what do you consider to be the highlight of your collegiate career?
- My best experience has been the 2018 season with Bethel College. Even though we only finished 3-7, my team always fought hard and really came together as a family.
What made you chose the Black Hornets?
- The potential and the success of the program. The whole process of signing was easy. I felt very welcomed after having just a brief conversation with the coach.
How do you see your career in Europe developing? What are your goals heading into your rookie season?
- I see myself being very successful in Europe. I am ready to bring honor to this team by winning a Championship. On the field I will bring passion, sportsmanship and a very high level of play. I see myself thriving and growing with a team and learning to play together. I expect to form healthy relationships with teammates and win championships. I expect nothing less than greatness from my team and I. We will be the most dominant team on the field every game.
Head Coach Andreja Živković thinks that the Hornets have made the right move with their latest signing and has spoken very highly about Bents playing abilities.
- Bent is the right fit for us. He has all the intangibles needed to be successful. He has the instincts, the toughness, his run defense is excellent, his block-shedding, his pass rushing skills are probably at the top of the list of many traits that he brings to the table. He will have a very important job anchoring our defense and helping our younger players improve and grow on and off the field. I am very excited and looking forward to working with him this season.
The Hornets will soon unveil who will be slinging the rock for them next season.
